#metoo

October 26, 2017

#metoo is not only a global hashtag. It's our lives.

It's about keys being held tightly in shivering hands. It's a strangers voice penetrating your ears. It's an arm that's stronger than you. That arm that later captures your waist when you rather go home. It's about being forced, drugged, beaten, and belittled. Your body belonging to someone else. It's about asking your best friend to please, please call me as soon as you get home. Just so I know that you're safe.

To live in fear. How did that become a normalized way of living?

Sadly, this hashtag brought up something that is being imprinted in many of us from a very young age. And I honestly can't stress this enough: There are many beautiful men out there. Not all sexual assault is made by men. And I want to point out how much it hurts me to even think that someone would ever fear my loved ones. But this is a global problem. Something that we all experienced. Something that needed to be addressed.

And if these last few days haven't had you stop and question the way that we treat each other.

Maybe these words will?
